Clare Friends of the Library

The Clare Friends of the Library will end 2003 with a Christmas dinner in the Barbara J. Long room of the Clare Town Hall.
In February my Secretary, Trish, and I attended the inaugural meeting of the SA Friends of the Library in the State Library where it was good to meet other Friends.

Also in February,  we had author, Monica McInerney, as a guest speaker. Monica was born and grew up in Clare and is one of the most interesting speakers to appear in the Library with her many anecdotes of growing up in Clare and life overseas. She now lives in Ireland with her husband. A large crowd attended to hear Monica speak.
Narelle Oliver, children’s author, was our next guest speaker. Local schools were invited to attend a day session and this was well attended.
A psychologist from the Clare Lower North Health Centre, John Raftery, chose to launch his book about the traumas experienced by war veterans at the Library and another interesting evening eventuated in June.
In September we hosted Fiona McIntosh, author of sci-fi fantasy trilogy, Betrayal, Destiny and Revenge. Fiona was another very interesting speaker, having travelled the world after growing up in England and India and settling and marrying in Australia.
Our book sale in October raised over $700 and our 3 raffles, Mothers’ Day, Fathers’ Day and the Christmas Raffle, brought in over $1700.
